LEAP Session 13: The Leadership Journey Becoming an Essential Leader
Presented by: Charles Smitherman, PhD, JD, MSt, CAE, CEO, Association of Professional Rental Organizations
Class Credits: 1 Credit
Most RTO leaders became managers because they were great at the work, not because they studied leadership. You were promoted for being excellent at collections, sales, or operations. But leading people requires an entirely different skill set.
In this session, APRO CEO Charles Smitherman introduces an original framework for understanding leadership development through three levels: useful, important, and essential leadership. Grounded in the Platinum Rule and ethical decision making, this model helps you evaluate where you currently operate, understand what your team truly needs to feel seen and valued, and apply practical disciplines that move you from reactive management to intentional leadership.
Through examples ranging from Ted Lasso to real world RTO challenges, you will gain tools to become the kind of leader people choose to follow and remember. Whether you manage one store or twenty, this session will reshape how you think about leadership and your role within it.

LEAP Session 1: Laser-Focused Execution Of Your Most Important Ideas
Presented by: Dan Fisher, Blue Ocean Brands, LLC dba Majik Rent to Own
Class Credits: 1 Credit
Laser-Focused Execution from individual success to your entire company. Have you ever left a TRIB Show or RTO World show with pages of notes… and your mind buzzing with dozens of great ideas? If you’re like me, you would take these ideas back to your stores and your team would roll their eyes and say something like, “Dan’s back from the TRIB Show! Watch out!”
And then, again, if you’re anything like me… you would come to the next show, hear a lot of great new ideas… and then a bunch of ideas would sound familiar… because you heard them at the LAST show… wrote them down… “rolled them out” to your team… and promptly forgot about them.
My discussion is about getting LASER-focused on execution. Focusing on what’s MOST important NOW, and getting it done NOW!
