APRO’s State Association of the Year Award recognizes a state association for exemplary leadership, organizational continuity, member engagement, and sustained excellence in legislative and educational initiatives. It honors the best in overall performance and commitment to the rent-to-own industry.
The Missouri Rental Dealers Association (MRDA) is the 2025 State Association of the Year. Under the leadership of longtime MRDA President “Tiger” John Cleek, Jr., the association has continued to champion Missouri’s RTO dealers with a strong, unified voice.
Cleek, President of Cleek’s Home Furnishings/Rentals & Sales, has been part of the rent-to-own industry since 1987, working his way up from delivery driver to store manager, regional manager, and ultimately president in 2022 following the passing of his father, the late “Tiger” John Cleek, Sr. His steady guidance and commitment to advocacy, education, and community service have helped ensure MRDA remains one of the most active and effective state associations in the country.
Under Cleek’s leadership, MRDA has continued to provide an active and effective voice for Missouri’s RTO dealers. Each year, the association hosts the Heartland of America Regional Tradeshow & Seminar, the largest state association event of its kind, bringing dealers and vendors together for education and networking. MRDA also leads with service, organizing its annual Give Back Event to support communities across Missouri.
A passionate supporter of APRO’s mission, Cleek has long championed collaboration between state and national efforts. His commitment to advancing the rent-to-own industry was further recognized this year with his election to the APRO Board of Directors.
Beyond the industry, Cleek is deeply committed to community service. He founded the Bowling for Autism Tournament more than 20 years ago, raising over $600,000 for autism research and support, and has contributed to numerous other charitable organizations.
APRO proudly recognizes the Missouri Rental Dealers Association and John Cleek, Jr. as the 2025 State Association of the Year.
