- Invite public officials to your rental business. They want to be viewed as someone who can roll up their sleeves to get work done for you. Public officials want to be a part of theย community.
- Focus your resources on key legislators such as those who serve on key committees or those who have personal experience withย yourย issues.
- Respect legislatorโs time and be diligent with yours. Politicians are busy so being on top of scheduling meetings is critical. Be prepared with what you want to say and organize it as concisely as possible.
- Follow up with a letter to the legislators (or staff members) you met, thanking them for their time, and briefly restate what you are asking their support for. Include a copy of the photo you took and ask the legislator to sign it and send it back.
- Visibility and presence are important. Send the photo to your local paper with a short letter about the visit. Post on social media and tag the legislator if available.
