Charles Smitherman III, PhD, PTS Financial Services’ General Counsel, has been promoted to Vice President of Financial Services for the company. PTS Financial Services and Tax Service is a turnkey operation designed to provide rental dealers with all they need to perform tax-preparation services for their customers.
Smitherman earned a juris doctor degree with a focus in corporate law, contract law, and international law from the University of Georgia School of Law and a master’s degree of legal research with distinction and doctor of philosophy from the University of Oxford in England. He served as the editor in chief for the Georgia Journal of International and Comparative Law and on the editorial board for the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal. Smitherman is a former University College London Faculty of Law tutor in property law and assisted with examinations in antitrust and competition law. He acted as a guest lecturer at law schools in the United States and Europe, including the University of Georgia School of Law where he led a course on international legal research and writing, and worked as a research assistant to academics at the British Institute for International and Comparative Law and the University of Georgia. Smitherman has been a member of the State Bar of Georgia since 2002 and from 2006 to 2015 was practicing corporate law and commercial litigation at a private practice in Dalton, Georgia. Smitherman has been serving full time as PTS General Counsel since August 2014.
