According to a news release, all are invited to check out the animals up for adoption and donate to the concurrent food drive. Bags of dog or cat food weighing at least 10 pounds earns you 50 percent off lease agreements, and all food is donated to the Columbus County Animal Shelter.

The event will take place at 1929 South Madison Street in Whiteville from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Male dogs can be adopted for $85 and females for $105, which includes an array of vaccinations and a spay or neuter certificate.

Male cats cost $55 and females $75, which includes spaying, neutering and rabies vaccinations.

“A shelter of our size is heavily dependent on community involvement, so this is exactly the type of event we need, especially as our shelter is very close to full of dogs and overflowing with kittens,” said Columbus County Animal Shelter Manager Joey Prince.
