John Clifton Cleek III, Missouri State University
APRO Sponsor: John Clifton Cleek Jr., Cleek's Inc.
John was awarded his high school’s highest honor in Science and plans to pursue a Chemistry degree to become an orthopedic surgeon. John spent his high school days as a member of the National Honor Society and becoming an Eagle Scout. He was vice president of the Sports Medicine Club, leader for the National Youth Leadership Training Conference and volunteered for the Special Olympics.
Shelby Daniel, University of Central Arkansas

Shelby spent her high school years as 4.0 honor student and salutatorian. When not being involved as a cheerleader captain, homecoming representative and student council member, she volunteered her time at the senior citizen center, Life Choices, City of Hope Outreach, Conway Human Development Center and as a camp counselor.
Shelby Davenport, East Carolina University

Shelby has been named as a National Honor Society member, National Honors Scholar, Beta Club and Junior Marshall. She was team captains for soccer and basketball teams and member of the student council. Shelby was active in her SADD, Interact , Spirit Club and even working as NC Governor’s page. She is working on her Gold Girl Scout Medal after 13 years in the program volunteering 200 community service hours.
Faith Jennings, University of Kentucky

Faith is one of three APRO scholarship recipients to receive a scholarship four years in a row and 1 of 7 that the foundation has helped graduate college. She graduated summa cum laude and now is on her goal to a Doctorate in Pharmacy. Faith volunteers with the Kentucky Alliance of Pharmacy Students to help educate about drug abuse and misuse. As the Social Volunteer Chair, she helped give presentation about medication safety for senior citizens and help host the Hearts for Kentucky for free heart checks. She also volunteered at the local Salvation Army Clinic.
Shamaica Lewis, University of South Alabama

Shamaica used her cooking skills in high school to help raise money for her school, breast care awareness, Ronald McDonald House, the Salvation Army and the Alabama Kidney Foundation. She was president of her schools Family Career and Community Leaders of America placing 3rd and 4th in two of their booth competitions. She was a member of the Varsity Scholars Team, Hi-Q team, Future Business Leaders of America, Model United Nations and the Junior Civitan Club.
Morgan Scherer, Indiana University

Morgan spent many hours of his High School days on his “Giving Back to Africa” campaign that helps educate the poor in Africa. His contributions included founding the GBA chapter at Indiana University as a high school student. He hiked 500 miles of the Appalachian trail with his dog raising $10,000 for the cause. He founded his high school’s Interact Club. He volunteered for Habitat For Humanity, Saint Vincent Furniture Drive and mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala. He was a member of National Honor Society, National Art Society and received the Good Citizenship Award and Rotary Youth Leadership award.

Nickolas Boensch, George Washington University

Graduating high school with honors, Nickolas enters George Washington to study International Relations. Nickolas spent his High School years volunteering for food banks, founding the school’s garden club creating a sustainable garden using the produce to donate to the local food bank. He also was named as the American Legion delegate and spent the last two years as a member of the Community Service club donating 50 hours of community service hours per year.
Nicholas Elkik, Kennesaw State University

This is Nicholas second year to be awarded an APRO scholarship. Nicholas has been named to the President’s list twice and admitted into the honors programs. He has volunteered with clean-ups at the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, distracted driving awareness and sending holiday cards to the troops overseas. He was awarded 2013 DECA Student of the Year for his 185 community service hours and placed 9th in the state business and ethics law challenge.
Angelique Granados, California State University

Angelique entered high school as an “at risk” student and enrolled in a Success 101 class. She was determined to be the first in her family to go to college so spent her high school years studying and being involved in the Hispanic Youth Leadership Club, Future Farmers of America, volunteering for the Cesar Chavez March and church activities.
Mariah Justice, University of Central Oklahoma

Mariah volunteered at fundraising events for Leukemia awareness and research through on-line campaigns and Light at Night events in tribute to her Grandmother who died from the disease. She also volunteered at nursing homes and park clean ups being an active member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. She volunteered with canned food drives and as a Big Sister for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America.
Raj Patel, Georgia Institute of Technology

This is Raj’s second scholarship. He has maintained his 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Dean’s List and the Faculty Honor’s Award. Due to his academic excellence, Raj has been recruited as a Teaching Assistant while also donating his time as a tutor for the computer programming class.
Taylor Rocke, University of Nebraska

Taylor is a senior at University of Nebraska pursuing a degree in Elementary Education. Taylor seeks to be a teacher and a coach that started when he tutored elementary students during high school. He created a group of friends to help tutor students each week while also being a volunteer basketball coach at the YMCA.
Kiersten Scheele, University of Toledo

Kiersten is one of three APRO scholarship recipients to receive the award four years in a row. She is entering into the doctorate program in Occupational Therapy and was just one of two applicants to be a Graduate Assistant. She was inducted into the Alpha Phi Omega co-ed fraternity where they make care packages for troops overseas, raising money for Hospice of Northwest Ohio, making blankets for the homeless and raising money for the American Cancer Society. She was also a member of the Recreational Therapy Club which participated in campus clean ups and collecting money for Christmas gifts for the needy.
Kelsey Solarz, Kent State University

This will be Kelsey’s third scholarship and her graduating year. She has been on the Dean’s list every semester and on the President’s list one semester. She has been a role model helping tutor underclassmen, being an assistant teacher, helping at the school’s Academic Success Center and sponsoring a little sister for Big Brothers and Sisters of America.
Rachel Sprayberry, William Woods University

This is Rachel’s second consecutive APRO scholarship. She spent last year helping raise money for woman’s heart health through her Alpha Phi sorority. She also helped organize activities for Special Olympics and Make-A-Wish. In her dreams to becoming a lawyer and judge, she spent time in mock trial competitions. She also volunteered with Students Today Alumni Tomorrow and Campus Activities Board.
Savannah Walker, Ohio State University

Savannah began her college year landing on the Dean’s List each semester, receiving the Honors Book Award in her psychology class and completing the State Trained Nursing Assistant certification. She volunteered for the Ohio Responds for public health crisis response and Breast Care Awareness.
Penny Wyatt, Missouri Baptist University

Penny was the first APRO scholarship winner in 2008. She is a rent-to-own employee working in her off hours to receive her MBA in Business Management. She has worked her way through graduating college and now graduate school as a single mother with a son. She volunteers for the Shop with a Cop program that helps provide money for the less fortunate kids during Thanksgiving, Easter and organized the charity car show to raise money for the program.

Daniel Ainsworth, Centenary College of Louisiana

This is Daniel’s second APRO scholarship. He continues is straight A path majoring in music. Daniel has spent literally 100s of volunteer hours through Young Life mentoring students and volunteering at their summer camps. He also volunteers at a Pregnancy Resource center and the local public radio station.
Nicole Boer, Southern Arkansas University Tech Community Honors Program
APRO Sponsor: Jim Johnson, Rent-A-Center
Nicole graduated high school with a 4.0 and will be attending SAU Tech as a freshman. She spent her high school years volunteering for her school’s PeaceJam organization helping work for a more peaceful world through global initiatives and helping raising money for organizations such as the Red Cross and Tsunami relief.
Michael Elkik, University of Georgia

Michael is just one of three scholarship recipients to win it four times in a row. Michael received these scholarships through his participation with underprivileged children, mentoring and participating and leading student business organizations. This year he was part of the Emerging Leaders Program, being an RA helping underclassmen and volunteering for Operational Smile.
Kendra Fischer, Duquesne University

Kendra is on her way to graduating. She has spent her years at Duquesne as a member of the Dean’s list. She has been involved in the Strong Women, Strong Girls organization where she volunteers her time as a mentor to young girls in the greater Pittsburgh area. She also mentored underclasswomen to lead her sorority as the best overall academic program.
Coltin Griffith, Western Kentucky University

This is Coltin’s second consecutive scholarship. He finished freshman year with a 3.9 GPA for 33 hours. That didn’t stop him from volunteering at the local animal shelter where one program was to bring puppies to campus to reduce stress during finals. Coltin also volunteers for the campus radio station holding events, working with local businesses to become Public Relations Director. Now as a sophomore, Coltin helps new students entering the college as a Residence Assistant.
Mary Kendricks, Ohio State University

Mary is in her 3rd year as a Buckeye carrying a 3.8 GPA. She has been on the Dean’s list 11 times. She volunteers as a Project Mentor for Big Brothers/Big Sisters while also being the vice president of the Buckeyes For Mentoring program matching upper classmen with younger students. She also is fundraising chair for her pharmacy honors fraternity to help pay for tutors.

This is Za’Kazia’s second consecutive APRO scholarship. She finished her freshman year making the Dean’s list while working part time and helping out in her community. Za’Kazia helps out through church sponsored food donation drives for the homeless, Needy Family Fund and the LifeSouth blood drives.
Jacob Myers, Ohio State University

During high school, Jacob was a member of the National Honor Society. He participated in the school newspaper, environmental club and varsity baseball. He was active in Special Olympics and A Kid Again helping kids with disabilities.
Alec Rotert, University of Nebraska

Alec is a sophomore at the University of Nebraska. He spent the summer before College and second semester working as a rental clerk at Ace Rent-to-Own. During his first two years, Alec participates in the Farmhouse Fraternity where he helps put on UNL’s Dance Marathon and The Big Event helping raise money for Make A Wish foundation and Friendship Home.
Haley Sims, University of Cincinnati

Haley is a junior at the University of Cincinnati and works part time at Microsoft to help pay for the bills and college living on her own. Haley has volunteered with the Ronald McDonald House, Microsoft Gives Back and Meals on Wheels. Her experience helping Paula who is confined to a wheel chair and has difficulty learning has led her to helping U.C. students develop technology to assist people with speaking and signing disabilities.

Markee Davis, Florida A&M University

Markee spent the summer working at Happy’s rent-to-own store getting to know the business first hand. During high school, Markee volunteered his time at the Red Cross, Fight Against Cancer and the Interact Club. Markee also volunteered a week in the Smokey Mountain National Park for a restoration project.
Makenley Lunsford, Howard College

As a member of the National Honor Society, Makenley maintained a 3.7 GPA while volunteering for the Love and Care Ministries helping gather clothes, hygiene kits and goody bags to the needy in her community. As an high school athlete, she also volunteered to maintain the softball fields while working at the local grocery store and helping raise money for the United Way.
Sean Reed, Illinois State University

Sean was active in high school as a football and baseball player playing all four years and being a captain on both squads. He was President of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America club in his senior year and VP his junior year. He also held two leadership positions in the Student Council in his Junior and Senior years.

Madison is a Fine Arts Major. She uses those skills to help improve the local parks painting parking lanes and planting flowers and trees. She served food to the homeless at Love’s Kitchen and helps younger kids teaching music and theater.

Charlton is a Biomedical Engineering student at the University Akron. He spent his four years saving money for college including being a rent-to-own employee since 2008 working around his school schedule. He credits his work as a rent-to-own employee for expanding his experience and realizing his future dreams.

This is Thomas’ second year to win a scholarship. He volunteers through his church helping ex convicts re-enter society in a positive manner. He volunteers as a substitute preacher and as a teacher on the planning council for their district camp meeting.
