Rent-A-Center helped strengthen the sense of community for the residents that attend the Hornell YMCA.

Representatives from Rent-A-Center stores from throughout the area delivered and assembled more than $5,000 in electronics and furniture to the Hornell YMCA as part of the company’s Random Acts of Caring program.

Children, staff and board members from the YMCA and Hornell Mayor Shawn Hogan attended an unveiling ceremony of the newly furnished room that will be used for programs and activities that build children’s physical, social, intellectual and emotional development.

The YMCA has been in the Hornell community since 1883 and currently serves approximately 1,300 members, including 145 school age children.

In addition, the YMCA also serves more than 1,200 people who participate in a wide array of special programs as well as a childcare program that serves more than 90 families daily and a youth athletic program that serves more than 500 children in soccer and basketball.

“The Hornell YMCA is very grateful to Rent-A-Center for their very generous gift on behalf of the children we serve every day,” said Mark Morrissey, executive director, Hornell YMCA.  “This is continued good news for our organization as we prepare for our move into a new building over the next year.”
