Alabama Congressman co-sponsors RTO bill

U.S. Rep. Bobby Bright today became the latest co-sponsor of H.R. 1744 — The Consumer Rental Purchase Agreement Act.
Bright, a Blue Dog Democrat elected this year, represts Alabama’s 2nd congressional district. The district includes just over half of the state capital, Montgomery, as well as most of the Wiregrass Region in the southeastern part of the state. Bright served as the Mayor of Montgomery from 1999 to 2009, and is the first mayor of Montgomery to be elected to the United States Congress.
Rep. Bright serves on the Committee on Agriculture, Committee on Armed Services and Committee on Small Business as well as half a dozen other sub committees.
The Congressman is the 102nd U.S. Representative to sign on in support of H.R. 1744 which would provide federal definition of the rent-to-own transaction as a lease and raise consumer protections in over 30 states.
Co-sponsorship of the U.S. Senate version of the bill — S. 738 — stands at 15.
