Rent-to-own News - TRIB Group Meeting of the Minds draws 'mind blowing' attendance
TRIB Group's signature Meeting of the Minds event next week is drawing a record number of rent to own's independent dealers to Las Vegas for frank discussions on key topics ranging from broadening customer base to improving presentation to human resources to club programs and driving core product sales.
Close to 250 dealers representing 84 rental companies are checking in at Caesar’s Palace Aug. 29-31 for this original TRIB Group event which, for the second year, is coupled with a second buy fair and is co-located with Brand’s Source’s National Convention.
Those numbers are up from last year's 71 rental companies and 200 attendees, a sign that the event offers the right things to dealers at the right time, according to TRIB Group Executive Director Dennis Shields.
"There really is not other event like this," Shields said. "People are anxious and eager to learn from their peers at MOM and ready to place orders for the rest of the year at the buy fair and our Hot Show where they find deals that are offered nowhere else."
Some 61 of TRIB Group's 90 approved vendors are exhibiting at the show. See photo gallery of TRIB Group's last Hotshow and convention here.
"Our members love having a second opportunity to meet with vendors," Shields said. "The summer is behind them and they are ready to place orders and move some products."
Registration will be open on Sunday Aug. 28 and prior to the Meeting of the Minds Session 1 which begins at 8 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 29.
Meeting of the Minds Session 1 runs Monday 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m prior to the HotShow and continues on Tuesday from 9:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the opening of the buy fair.
TRIB Group's HotShow Monday evening promises the best discounts and deals on everything from furniture to appliances to electronics and specialty items and services.
Tuesday will also be unity shirt day in which members will wear the Serta-sponsored 2011 Meeting of the Minds shirt that will be distributed at registration.
The buy fair will open to all members for lunch and purchasing at 12:30pm on Tuesday. Purchasing discounts from TRIB Group including savings vouchers and TRIB FLASH (text message system) specials will be offered.
Last minute registration can be completed at www.brandsourceconvention.com. All vendor representatives attending the show must also register for name badges.
A full, downloadable copy of the event agenda and schedule of topics can be found at www.tribgroup.com.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
