NEWSLETTERS - The most important survey you will take all year

The most important survey you will take all year;
APRO's 2008 online statistical survey is here

Nothing tells the rent-to-own story as clearly as your business data.

And there is no more authoritative document on the financial health and well-being  of the rent-to-own industry than APRO's annual statistical survey.

The final report -- a comprehensive financial analysis of participating APRO members -- is the economic touchstone of the industry. The document is used by Wall Street, bankers, legislators, policy makers, the media and the public to clarify and promote the unique role the rental purchase industry plays in the economy.

"The entire financial stability of the rent-to-own industry is based on this survey," says Richard May, APRO public affairs director. "Your ability to get a loan, your ability to get financing, it's a direct result of this survey and the hard work accomplished by the industry over the past 20 years. This is where the economic muscle of rent-to-own is flexed each year."

In addition to pundits and policy makers, product manufacturers and service providers also depend on the results of the report to better serve dealers nationwide.

But because the survey data is generated from its membership, APRO needs your help to make the 2008 statistical survey a reality.

Click here, or on the links throughout this article, to take the online survey. APRO has endeavored to make this year's survey shorter, more meaningful and easier to complete and only vitally important industry information is requested.

Members will need to register a new account on the site, as it is not affiliated with the APRO Web site or related user access data.

If you are unable to complete to survey in one sitting, use the "save" button at the bottom of the page to save your progress and return to complete the form at at later time.

Deadline for completion is July 11, 2008.

APRO will use independent third party firm Industry Insights, Inc. to compile and analyze the data, which will be subjected to the strictest confidence. The data is submitted via a 128-bit SSL secure website and maintained on a secure server.

No APRO staff member nor any industry company or individual, nor anyone outside of Industry Insights will have access to any individual data. Upon receipt of your company’s survey form, all company identification will be removed and a confidential code number assigned.

Participants will receive a free copy of the aggregated industry report and an individualized Company Performance Report that will compare your company’s reported figures to the aggregated results of other similar sized firms.

Industry Insights will mail the individual reports directly to the participants once the industry report is finalized.

Non-participating APRO members can purchase the final report for $500.

The report will not be made available to non-members.

For assistance completing the form contact Greg Manns at Industry Insights, Inc. at 614.802.2310 ext. 108 or by email at gmanns@industryinsights.com.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
