Rent-to-own News - RSVP to attend Ohio and New York focus groups next week

April 8, 2011

APRO and state rental dealer associations invite dealers to attend two RTO "Potential Customer" focus groups next week   in Ohio and New York.

Participating dealers witness as two groups of potential RTO customers talk about their impressions of rent-to-own, why they do not consider rent-to-own, their potential exposure to rent-to-own and, most importantly, what would motivate them to consider rent-to-own.

The Ohio Rental Dealers Association is organizing the first April focus group in Columbus, Ohio on April 13 at the Delve Marketing Research Center 7634 Crosswoods Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43235, Phone: 614/436-2025.

The two focus group sessions are from 6-9:30 p.m. If you attend, please inform the receptionist you are an APRO client. They will escort you to the viewing rooms.

The second study, organized by the New York State Rental Dealers Association, is in Syracuse, New York on April 14 at Research & Marketing Strategies, Inc., 15 E Genesee Street, Ste 210 Baldwinsville, New York 13027, Phone: 315/635-9802.

The first New York focus group session begins at 6:00 p.m.; the second at 8:00 p.m.

A third focus group, organized by the Florida Rental Dealers Association, set for April 19 in Tampa, Florida at Plaza Research -- 4301 Anchor Plaza Parkway, Suite 150 Tampa, FL 33634, Phone: 813/769-2900.

The two focus groups sessions are from 6 – 9:30 p.m.

Those rental professionals wishing to attend must contact APRO Public Affairs Director Richard May at rmay@rtohq.org or 800/204-2776 ext. 104 to RSVP. Seating is limited so reservations are required.

These focus groups represents three of four studies being conducted by APRO and state associations across the country this year. One took place in San Antonio, Texas last month. They offer RTO dealers some of the most profound insights on how to reach the 50 million non-renting Americans who fit the industry demographic.

The results of these and all APRO "Potential Customer" surveys over the past two years will be compiled into a specialized RTO Marketing Plan provided for free to those attending the APRO Convention in Little Rock July 11-14.

For more information contact Richard May at rmay@rtohq.org.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
