Rent-to-own News - Rose is rental dealer of the year, Workman is vendor
In a star-studded awards banquet Wednesday, APRO recognized a slew of outstanding individuals as part of the association's "Family Reunion" themed convention.
APRO's coveted rental dealer of the year award went to APRO Boardmember and owner of BestWay Rent-to-Own of Virginia, Richard Rose.
In 1984, Rose along with partners Jeff Loeb and Edward Jaffee, launched an RTO business in Norfolk. Today BestWay is a a chain of 19 stores with another three rent-n-roll stores in the mix, all in Virginia.
"Rose is a long-term member of the APRO board of directors, because he values and understands the importance of the association’s work," said APRO President Robert Briley. "He has served on every APRO committee and during APRO meetings, everyone knows that the meeting is not over until this guy has had a chance to offer his input, which he faithfully and dutifully does on every issue."
Rose humble accepted the award from Briley and APRO's first ever rental dealer of the year winner Roger Sharp.
"I can't believe you all think I am the dealer of the year," Rose said. "In any case, I humbly accept and will work for this industry for the rest of my life."
APRO's 2011 Norm Smith Vendor of the Year Award Winner is Sherry Workman.
Workman started out as a software vendor and, from the beginning, understood the importance of a strong trade association and was a vigorous champion of APRO.
She returned to RTO with the same passion for the business that she had always had.
"Most recently, she has started up her own sales company with a focus on RTO dealers," said APRO President Robert Briley. "She demonstrates high energy, a positive attitude and is very tenacious and timeless. She strives to make our industry as good as it can be."
APRO's 2011 President's Award of Excellence went to APRO Board member and owner of Baber's and Rent-n-Roll stores, Cynthia Baber Strunk.
APRO's 2011 Heritage Award went to APRO Board member Sidney Burton, owner of Hometown Ventures.
The Texas Association of Rental Agencies took home APRO's 2011 State Association of the Year Award.
