Rental Industry Support strong at Clyburn Golf Classic

The Rent-To-Own industry as represented by APRO, Crusader Rent-to-Own, Aaron's and Rent-A-Center this weekend contributed products and prizes that helped raise over $10,000 in scholarships for S. Carolina students at the James Clyburn annual Golf Classic in Santee, South Carolina.

Jim Clyburn is the House Majority Whip and the third ranking Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives and was present at the event which to date has funded over 400 scholarships and contributed over $450,000 to the James E. Clyburn Endowment at South Carolina State University.

APRO Past President Gary McDougal and his wife, Mary, attended the event this year.

The rental industry has raised over $55,000 for the scholarship endowment since first becoming involved in the effort in 2001.

As in years past, proceeds from the Classic will fund need-based scholarships for high school graduates and college students who live in South Carolina's 6th Congressional District, and the endowment that Jim Clyburn has established at South Carolina State University (SCSU).

Including sponsorship of the Congressional Black Caucus Silent Auction, participation in the Clyburn Classic Golf Tournament and the industry's own educational initiations -- The APRO Scholarship Foundation and Computers for Kidz -- the rent-to-own industry has raised over half a million for educational scholarships and programs since 1998.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
