Rent One's Fuwell honored with top Carnegie award

Public speaking was never a favorite pastime of Rent One Store Manager Sheila Fuwell.

But by the end of a 12-week Dale Carnegie Management Training Course, Fuwell's weekly presentations became a class favorite, earning the respect of her classmates who voted to award her the Dale Carnegie "Highest Achievement Award".

Rent One Store Manager Sheila Fuwell receives the Dale Carnegie "Highest Achievement Award" from Rent One Regional Manager Joe Tubb.

The honor, presented recently at a graduation ceremony in Sikeston, Missouri, is awarded to the student in each class that displays the most improvement.

"It's (the course) really changed the way I deal with things here at work," says Fuwell, who manages Rent One's Dexter, Missouri location. "It really gave me the tools to feel more comfortable and confident speaking in public, but also how to be a good listener. I've  been able to really focus on my customers and employees and can see a difference."

This year, seven Rent One managers have graduated from the Dale Carnegie Program and another five are currently enrolled.

Rent One began regularly utilizing the program 15 years ago when Rent One CEO Larry Carrico received the Dale Carnegie "Highest Achievement Award".

Brian Catanzaro, training consultant for Dale Carnegie Training in St. Louis, says Fuwell -- along with other students -- was required to give a two-minute presentation at the beginning of each class about how she was implementing the principles of the course in her daily work.

Her honesty and enthusiasm were great assets to the class, he says.

"She really enhanced the discussion and had the biggest impact on the class," Catanzaro says. "By implementing Dale Carnegie’s principles into the Dexter Rent One location, she reached new levels of success as both a leader and revenue-generator for the organization."

The Dale Carnegie Management Programs are offered in all 50 states in over 25 languages and focus on building confidence, leadership, communication and people skills. Approximately seven million people have completed Dale Carnegie training programs.
