Registration open for TARA Legislative Conference

Registration is now open for the TARA 2009 Legislative Conference, Jan. 26-27, 2009, at the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, down the street from the Texas State Capitol. Registration for this conference is free to all TARA members who register before Jan. 15.

Conference To Support Tax Legislation for Texas RTO Industry

During the upcoming 81st Texas Legislature, which begins January 13, TARA will seek legislation to amend the Texas Constitution to:

(1) authorize the Legislature to exempt from ad valorem taxation rent-to-own property not held by the person renting the property primarily to produce income, and to

(2) prescribe the method to be used to depreciate taxable rent-to-own property for tax appraisal purposes.

On Jan. 26, TARA members will receive a complete briefing on the content of the proposed constitutional property tax amendment and instructions on how to have a successful meeting with legislators. On Tuesday, members will go to the State Capitol to meet with their State Representatives and Senators in a planned "Capitol Blitz".
