Rent-to-own News - Premier dealers reach out to family in need

June 6, 2011

Jamie and Rick Sieverding, Premier Home Furnishings owners in Clinton, Iowa recently donated a 42” LCD HDTV for a fundraiser that brought in $7,500 for a family in need.

Andrew and Jenny Connolly married with a dream of a life together full of happiness and children.

Their son Brody was born July 31, 2008. Within hours of his birth, he was rushed to another hospital for special care. Brody was born with congenital myasthenics syndrome, an inherited neuromuscular disorder causing general muscle weakness as well as feeding and respiratory problems.

Brody will be three years old this summer. He has a tracheotomy to help with his breathing and has his heart rate and oxygen levels monitored by a machine.  Brody receives 16 hours of nursing care each day in addition to a full time night nurse.

Within Brody’s first year of life, his father, Andrew, was diagnosed with spinal cancer. Last summer a portion of Andrew’s spine was removed in hopes of removing the tumor as well.  The surgery left him bound to a wheelchair as he is now paralyzed from his chest down.  Andrew’s hopes are diminishing – his cancer is now in stage 4.

Jamie and Rick did not know the Connolly’s; however, they felt the need to do anything they could to help.

“This might be the most rewarding thing we have done for a family. This story was a big eye opener for all,” says Jamie, “I think the real message here is to hug your family and be thankful for what we all have.”

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
