Rent-to-own News - National TV Sales leads food drive

October 4, 2011

All of National TV Sales & Rental's 17 stores throughout Missouri are filling up their food pantries in each of the towns where they do business as part of their “Families helping Families" campaign.

Though company donations have been made to the Lebanon, Missouri food pantry -- home base for National TV Sales and Rental -- owner Kathy Windsor encouraged individual stores to create grass-roots efforts in the individual communities they serve.

"We are seeing a lot of families that were squeaking by last year, but with the price of food increasing so rapidly, they aren't able to keep up this year," said National TV Sales Owner Kathy Windsor. "Rent to own is all about families and now is the time for our families to help other families. Can you imagine what an impact our industry could make in all the small towns where we do business without at great deal of effort."

Windsor challenged rental dealers across the country to help fill up food banks in their local communities in any way they can.

"Every little bit helps," she said. "We're letting our stores come up with their own ideas. As long as it's G-rated. We're okay with it."

Some of the more creative proposals Windsor has seen include one manager throwing a "block party" for his shopping center and one "grill master" who has committed to grill hot dogs every Saturday and sell them for $1 or two cans of food.

One store has added three other local businesses to its campaign and they are challenging each other to see who can generate the most collections.

Each store is setting its own goals and coming up with ways to reach them.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
