Kentucky rental dealers meet with attorney general

A trio of Kentucky Rental Dealers this week trekked to Frankfort, Kentucky to meet with the attorney general and other top state officials on a "mission of goodwill" to  create and maintain a positive image of rent-to-own in the state.

According to Kentucky Rental Dealers Association (KYRDA) President Chris Bolin, dealers met with Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and his director of consumer affairs, Todd Leatherman. The group also met with Eddie Jacobs, special advisor to Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear.

The KYRDA Executive Committee -- Bolin, vice president Mike Martin and secretary/treasurer Bill Milby -- spearheaded the meetings and reported encouraging results at the KYRDA spring board meeting in Louisville April 23.

"The first thing the attorney general let us know real quick was we are not even on the radar screen, that he had other priorities on his plate," Bolin said. "He told us there were no consumer complaints about us pending in Kentucky and there hadn't been in a long time. We just let him know we were here to assist his office in any way."

In partnership with Conway's campaign against cyber-crimes against children, Bolin said the Kentucky contingent agreed to hand out flyers to families renting computers at KYRDA stores, advising parents on how to protect their children from Internet predators.

In other KYRDA business, the board completed its registration as a limited liability corporation, discussed the upcoming Midwest Expo, and set April 14-15, 2009 as a tentative date for KYRDA's general membership meeting.

A group of Florida rental dealers met with their state's attorney general the same day as KYRDA officials (Click here for full story) and the Ohio Rental Dealers Association made a trip to its attorney general's office last month. (Click here for full story).

KYRDA has a seven member board and approximately 20 companies belong to the association.
