Rent-to-own News - Heartland of America gears up for sixth annual regional show
Next week the Heartland of America Trade Show marks it's sixth year when hundreds of rent to own dealers and vendors head to Lake Ozark, Missouri, where they will take part in an enviable golfing, fishing, networking and buying bonanza, that distinguishes the show's regional legacy as a value packed company destination.
Around 140 Rent-to-own pros from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Missouri are expected at the annual event hosted by the Missouri Rental Dealers Association (MRDA) June 15-17. Though the number of attending dealers is down this year, the number of participating rent to own companies is up from 19 to 24 over last year.
The event has become a regular stop for rent-to-own companies across the Midwest.
Cleek singled out MRDA's dealer and vendor solicitation committees in particular or their success in recruiting dealers to come to the show this year. The MRDA dealers committee includes: J.C. Cox (Gateway Rent To Own), Macy and Scott Mitchel (All American Rental) and Chuck Kuluva (Rental City). The MRDA vendors committee includes: Trent Agin (Rent One), Dan Cole (National Rent To Own), Scott Mitchell (All American Rental), Chuck Kuluva - Rental City.
For the second year the show will feature vendor training seminars in which dealers will break into groups and rotate between six product trainings including presentations.
Education sponsors and a description of their trainings are as follows:
(6) Whirlpool: This session will consist of installation tips and precautions for delivering, installing appliances and picking up items. Also, the training will discuss how to qualify service issues and how to recognize the symptoms and perform simple tests instead of changing the unit out and what are common issues seen in appliances. They will also discuss the features and benefits of the new top load laundry line.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
