Rent-to-own News - NEW PODCASTS: Heartland companies keep it "all in the family"

June 16, 2010

National TV Sales and Rental's family.

In a recent issue of RTOHQ: The Magazine, APRO's General Counsel Ed Winn III observed that today's rent-to-own companies increasingly are family-run businesses.

Gone are those dealers who were in it primarily to make a quick buck; they've been replaced by business men and women keen on nurturing a company in which their children and grandchildren can participate for generations to come.

Certainly that sense of family is in full force at the Missouri Rental Dealers Association's annual Heartland of America Regional Trade Show and Seminar, June 15-17 at the Lake of the Ozarks. National TV Sales and Rental's Windsor clan proudly waves the family banner at the show--and they're not the only ones.

APRO President Tiger John Cleek is proud, too, to be in business with his son, Tiger John Cleek Jr., MRDA's president and one of the key organizers, along with Ken Steiner and the MRDA board, of the Heartland of America Trade Show.

In the podcast, Cleek also talks about what makes for a successful state rental dealer association--a topic on which Cleek is most passionate.

And speaking of "all in the family," Rent One's Larry Carrico this week welcomes his newest employee, daughter Kelly Carrico. She joins brother Steven Carrico in working for a proud father and a progressive rent-to-own company.

It's long been said that the rent-to-own industry is one big, happy family--more and more, it's comprised of MANY families, as well.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
