Rent-to-own News - Harry Pappas III and Scott McHale team to open ColorTyme franchise

September 13, 2010

Two franchisees recently set out to improve rent-to-own in Sharon Hill, Pa. by introducing ColorTyme to the area. Harry Pappas III and Scott McHale combined their extensive retail and franchising experience to give residents a better way of doing business.

“We believe this store is an opportunity for us to change the way rent-to-own is perceived in our market,” said McHale. “Since our store is privately owned, we can respond to the needs of our customers in a way that large corporate brands cannot. We are determined to have the best products and service and create the best possible experience for everyone who walks though our door.”

From electronics and computers to furniture and appliances, ColorTyme gives customers a credit-free and affordable way to get the things they need. The store offers name-brand merchandise with service, delivery and set-up at no extra charge during the rental period.

The new ColorTyme franchisees expect to make a positive impression on Sharon Hill residents and build long-lasting relationships.

“We will give customers a rent-to-own store they prefer to do business with because we treat everyone with the dignity and respect they deserve,” said Harry Pappas III, a former operator of Krispy Kreme and current owner of Quiznos franchises. “ColorTyme is a family-oriented franchise, and we are proud to serve our community. We hope to do so for many years to come.”

The new ColorTyme is located at 1102A Chester Pike in the Acme Center. The store will celebrate its grand opening on Oct. 2, and visitors can enter into a drawing for the chance to win a 50-inch plasma TV. Store Manager Angelo Lee anticipates a large turnout for the event.

“The response to our store has been overwhelming. We’ve received such a warm welcome, and I think everyone is as excited as we are for the grand opening,” Lee said.  “In my 15 years in the rent-to-own industry, I’ve never seen the level of confidence that I do at ColorTyme. The store is impeccable, our products are second-to-none, and we support what we sell. You can tell these things really make a difference.”

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
