Georgia dealers to re-organize next month

Georgia rent-to-own dealers will join forces next month in Atlanta to re-organize their dormant state association and take a greater stake in the state's RTO future.

The Georgia Rental Dealers Association Reorganization Meeting will take place October 22 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Renaissance Concourse Hotel in Atlanta and all dealers are welcome.

APRO President "Tiger" John Cleek will speak at the meeting and discuss the importance of state associations in determining the public face of rent-to-own.

"The key time to re-organize a state association is when you have people step up to get involved," Cleek said. "We have had several people come forward to get this association off the ground and that, combined with the meeting of the minds event going on at the same time, really makes the timing ideal. There's never been a more important time to have strong state associations."

The economy and current political climate, including upcoming elections in which all U.S. House seats and one third of U.S. Senate seats are up for re-election, has raised the bar for the need for strong industry organization at the state level, he said.

RTO Lobbyist Samuel Choate will update Georgia dealers on the state's political scene.

The hotel reservation deadline is Wednesday, September 29 and attendees should request the TRIB Group meeting room rate of $154 per night. For room reservations, call 888/391-8724 toll free (or 404/209-9999 locally).

Georgia dealers are also invited to attend the annual TRIB Group "Meeting of the Minds" event immediately following the Georgia RDA meeting.

Both the Georgia RDA meeting and TRIB meeting are scheduled at the same hotel.

The Georgia RDA meeting is co-sponsored by TRIB Group and APRO.

Those planning to attend please RSVP Jeannie Hutchison at jhutchison@rtohq.org or call 800/204-2776 ext. 108.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
