Rent-to-own News - Furniture Smart levels playing field for independents

October 27, 2010

Bill Caples of Twin Star and Bill Bazemore of Furniture Smart, the furniture division of Nationwide Marketing Group, last week at the High Point Furniture Market.

Furniture Smart, a division of Nationwide Marketing Group (NMG), the largest buying and marketing organization serving thousands of independent dealers across the country, had a successful exhibit at the High Point Market in High Point, NC last week.

“With all the major manufacturers at the market there was tremendous value to be had, allowing independents to be ready for a strong holiday season,” said Bill Bazemore, Executive Director of Furniture Smart for NMG. “Some of the hot categories at the show included sectionals, entertainment consoles and motion upholstery.”

Bill Caples Vice President of Sales & Marketing for Twin-Star International said Furniture Smart helps level the playing field for independents.

“Furniture Smart provides solutions for independent dealers so they operate on a level playing field with the major retailers and have a stronger presence in the furniture industry," Caples said. "In return, dealers know that as a partner of Furniture Smart we are a legitimate company to work with.”

At the Furniture Smart booth located in the Retailer Resource Center, dealers stopped by to learn about exclusive member programs with the industry’s leading manufacturers. These valuable programs included special pricing, rebates, guaranteed freight rates, quick ship programs and marketing solutions. Visitors also entered for their chance to win an iPad. New Furniture Smart members, Moeiz and Silvana Merali of Furniture Marketplace out of Greenville, SC were the lucky winners.

“Furniture Smart maintains a strong presence in the industry so we are always in a position to keep our membership informed of the industry’s latest trends,” said Bazemore.

At the Legends Furniture exhibit, Dave Orrico Vice President of Sales for Rosa’s commented, “I have had nothing but positive experiences as a member of Nationwide Marketing Group. We are a family of dealers that have built strong relationships with each other and our manufacturer partners.”

“Networking is paramount to create and generate autonomy in the marketplace,” said Tim Donk Director of Marketing for Legends Furniture. “Furniture Smart provides this for their dealers twice a year at PrimeTime! their member buying show and conference. These opportunities coupled with our phenomenal warehouse programs should be of great value to any dealer.”

To learn more about the many benefits of joining Furniture Smart, including an invitation to the upcoming PrimeTime! in Las Vegas, contact Bill Bazemore at furniture@nationwidegroup.org or 770/442-9726.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
