Fire claims home of Rent One employee, company rallies to help

A fire gutted the home of Rent One Employee Johnny Little this Saturday. Rent One is coordinating an inner-company relief drive for the Little family.

When a devastating fire claimed the home of a Rent One delivery technician and his family this weekend, the company stepped in to ease the blow.

On Saturday, a fire ravaged the home of Johnny Little, 25, of Oxly, Missouri, leveling the home where he lived with his wife and four children.

No one was home when the fire -- believed to be electrical in nature -- started, however, Little and his wife Betty, 22, and their children Ashley, 9, Cody, 5, June, 3 and Alicia 1, were stripped of shelter, food and clothing just days before Christmas.

"We've notified the Red Cross and are setting up a fund internally to help him out," said Rent One Manager Frank Spicer, who manages the company's Poplar Bluff location where Little works. "He's a real hard worker and we're just trying to help him and his family during this tough time. We take care of our own."

The Little family is currently staying with fellow delivery technician Mike Boyar and Red Cross has chipped in with $900 to help the family find a new place to live. Poplar Bluff employees are also organizing a clothes drive for the family in coordination with local aid agencies.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
