Rent-to-own News - ColorTyme retreat kicks off in Bonita Springs
The Country's oldest rent-to-own franchise company kicked off it's annual franchisee getaway this year in Bonita Springs, Florida today with a vendor appreciation reception.
Around 135 franchisees, vendors, friends and family will enjoy a much deserved three days networking and taking part in leisure activities including a golf tournament at the renown Raptor Bay.
For the second year in a row the "Tyme Travelers" -- a seven member group of the ColorTyme community -- hopped on motorcycles and ate up the road between their Richmond, Virginia starting point and the Florida coast.
Tyme Traveler riders and the miles they covered include: Ted Schlaack (ColorTyme Corporate -- 2,500 miles), Jan Labat (franshisee -- 2,500 miles), Tom and Lisa Neyhart (franchisees -- 2,280), Mark Shealy (ColorTyme Corporate -- 1,500 miles), Judy Schlaack (1,500 miles), Louie Hall (franchisee -- 1,800 miles).
The "Tyme Travelers" trek was around 50 miles longer than last year's and included the "Blue Ridge Parkway" and the "Tail of the Dragon" (Hwy 129) which is considered the curviest stretch of road in the country with 318 curves over 11 miles.
"It was great," said Ted Schlaack who began riding seriously four years ago. "It's always an adventure and a great opportunity."
The general session begins tomorrow with a welcome by ColorTyme CEO Bob Bloom followed by an industry update by Rent-A-Center President Mitch Fadel and a legislative update from Rent-A-Center's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Dwight Dumler. A buying show featuring around 15 select vendors will follow the general session where exclusive “Quick Buys” will be made available to attending dealers.
Golf Tournament and special events continue through Saturday when the event closes with a special dinner finale.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience by Neil Ferguson Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers
Who Is Your Competition? by Bill Keese In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.
A Review of Online Customer Complaints by Ed Winn III While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
Rent-to-Own Families, Part VIII by Kristen Card Our series of family-run rent-to-own businesses continues with profiles of the Homeiers in Kansas and two Texas-based sets of kindred colleagues, the Spangles and the Weisblatts.
