Rent-to-own News - ColorTyme Franchise Advisory Council discusses new programs and owner feedback

January 27, 2011

The ColorTyme Franchise Advisory Council (FAC) serves as a critical link between franchisees and the corporate management team.

Following the conclusion of another successful ColorTyme National Convention, FAC members met at the corporate headquarters Wednesday to address important business topics and offer ideas on strengthening the rent-to-own franchise brand.

The meeting opened with a discussion between FAC members and ColorTyme corporate executives that covered upcoming projects, new revenue programs and the yearly advertising fund budget. Continuing the conversation into the afternoon, the FAC provided feedback from owners and reviewed the 2011 National Convention, a 2-day event ending Tuesday which featured industry speakers, award presentations and a buying show.

Vice President of Operations for ColorTyme, Albert Kohut, felt the meeting was productive in sharing and gaining information.

“I don’t think it could have gone any better. We consult with the FAC on a wide range of topics and appreciate their incredibly valuable input,” he said. “I always look forward to our meetings because it gives the corporate staff insight on how our franchisees feel and what issues they are dealing with. Understanding the areas where the most support is needed helps us serve our owners more effectively.”

Currently, the board consists of 10 members each representing five or six franchisee constituents. Members are:  Mark Childers, Jim Conyers, Steve Dwyer, Bruce Emory, John Fornero, Louis Hall, Chris Higgs, Ron Koller, John Prothro and George Wilson.

The ColorTyme FAC system has been in place for more than 20 years. The group will hold elections for new board members next month.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
