Rent-to-own News - Buddy's makes donation to rebuild Joplin

November 11, 2011

L to R: Greg Crawford Joplin Rotary Club President, Chuck Haver, Mark Norton (Will’s Father).

In September, Buddy’s Home Furnishings of Tampa held a fundraising event to help the rebuilding and support efforts in Joplin, Missouri, which was devastated by an EF5 tornado on May 22, 2011.

The fundraising event collected $3,500 and was sent to Chuck Haver who presented the check to the Joplin Rotary Club at its meeting on Thursday, November 10th.

Haver, an owner and operator of BREG Group, LLC, operates a group of 10 Buddy’s locations in Arkansas, Oklahoma and Kansas lives in Joplin and lost his nephew Will Norton in the storm.

The Joplin Rotary Club is raising money to build a “Miracle Field” in Joplin. The Miracle Fields is an organization that builds sports facilities in cities across the country. The fields are designed for handicapped children so that they may also participate in sporting events.

The field in Joplin will be built in memory of Will Norton and be called “The Will Norton Miracle Field.” This field is just another part of the Joplin rebuilding effort and will provide handicapped children for years to come the ability to have a more normal childhood.

“My wife Jane and I are so proud to be a part of a company that cares so much for other people. We loved our nephew and will miss him forever," Haver said.  "Buddy’s has once again stepped up and shown the true meaning of “Buddy Love” and graciously donated their time and money to people they don’t know."

He said he is especially proud that the donation will help the entire region.

"The money raised will go to a wonderful cause and help children in not only Joplin but also the entire four states region," Haver said. "Also, a special thank you to Charlie Buff and his wife for putting the fundraising event together. It is people like Charlie that make this company so special.”

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
