APRO board elections heat up

In just under four weeks, APRO members will decide who will fill half the seats on the APRO Board of Directors.

This year, 10 candidates are vying for eight available positions on the board, each representing a two-year term.

Board members serve staggered two-year terms and half of the seats come open each year at the convention and buying show, in addition to any vacancies that need to be filled.

Six of the 10 candidates are incumbent board members seeking re-election.

Two sitting board members are not seeking re-election -- Geron Vail of FAN Sales & Leasing LLC and Mike Talley of Talley Rents LLC, dba Rent 1st.

Voting will take place during the general session and business meeting August 13, which begins at 9 a.m. and only APRO members in good standing are eligible to vote.

APRO members not attending the convention, may send in proxy ballots by August 1st. Official proxy ballots were mailed to all members on Monday, July 14 and e-mails are also being sent over the next couple of days.

by Neil Ferguson

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
