Rent-to-own News - The Premier Companies wrap marketing workshop

September 28, 2011

Scott Kinnear, led marketing budget workshop at recent Premier meeting.

The Premier Companies last week, held their second annual marketing workshop in which dealer-led seminars guided participating dealers through successful marketing strategies to help them draw more customers and rental agreements.

The workshop was also broadcasted live to the Premier organization.

Scott Kinnear, Premier Marketing Board Chairman and the 2010 Premier Dealer of the Year, led the workshop and guided attendees through writing a marketing budget.

Attendees were asked to come prepared with their past marketing plan and budgets along with the media used to promote their store. This was used in an exercise to determine their budget for the next six months.

New technology was released to the dealers that charts a marketing campaign and compares it to deliveries and new agreements per day overlaying the dates of their marketing plan.

The workshop was a first for John Sprayberry, Premier dealer in Dixon, Illinois.

“The technology Premier is providing us is just amazing and is a very useful tool to help us to be better at determining what types of advertising is really working," Sprayberry said. "Participating in a workshop like this allowed me to see some different ways to utilize some of the basic marketing that we all do.”

Dealers are also able to review a map online which shows where their customers actually reside.  This tool can be used to ensure that a dealer’s direct mail campaigns can utilized to greatest effect.

Presentations were also made by several other Premier dealers including Jamie Sieverding, owner of Premier Home Furnishings in Clinton, Iowa.

Sieverding shared how his store uses community involvement and inexpensive marketing ideas to generate more business.

Mike Shuler, owner of two Premier Rental Purchase stores in Nebraska, talked about how to “retail market” your rent to own store for cash sales.

Chad Moody, owner of Premier Rental Purchase locations in Columbus, Mississippi and Tuscaloosa, Alabama conducted a session on Guerilla Marketing using material developed by Matt Baker, Premier Dealer in Atlanta, Georgia.

"It’s great to be able to meet in person to share marketing ideas with everyone," Moody said.  "I always learn something new at each and every one of these meetings. You really have to be here in person to take full advantage of the workshop.  The interaction is priceless.”

The Premier Companies plans to host two more Marketing Workshops in 2012.

The national office of The Premier Companies is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. Premier Brands consist of Premier Rental-Purchase, Premier Home Furnishings, Premier Wheel Workz, and Premier Auto by Rent. All Premier stores are independently owned and operated. Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
