Rent-to-own News - RNR steps in for grandparents of sick child

June 13, 2011

Tampa-based Rent-N-Roll recently pitched in for the grandparents of a Xavier Coller, a now eight-month-old who has faced a series of life threatening health issues since his he was born five month's premature last October.

Weighing in at 4 lbs. 11 oz. at birth, he was diagnosed with a heart defect early on with a host of heart defects that would require multiple surgeries. Due to the health condition of his mother -- who was left unable to care for him -- Xavier's grandparents Sue Coller, 55, and Steve Coller, 60, took legal custody of the child.

The couple plans to adopt Xavier.

The baby was released to the Collers later in October but had to be taken by ambulance to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida to have his first open heart surgery. Though the surgery went well, Xavier went into acute cardiac arrest and his lungs collapsed later that night. He finally was kept alive by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for 11 minutes until he began to breath normally again. The Colliers were at his bedside everyday for that month.

Xavier is now home with his grandparents in Zephyrhills, Florida, but the family continues to make the 100 mile round trip journey to St. Petersburg for doctor and specialist visits.

As a result, the family car tires were worn bald before Larry Sutton and Rent-N-Roll replaced them with new ones.

"We sure did forget how much it took in order to raise a child again since we never thought that we would be doing this but we are very happy we are," said Sue Coller. "There is so much joy a child brings to the home but along with that also comes a whole lot of needs that we never dreamed we would have to worry about supplying at our age and our government programs are little if any help at all."

We are asking for anything that would help us on this journey by any means anyone may have and we pray they may be Blessed as much as we are in being able to raise up Xavier.

RNR/ Rent-n-Roll, believes it has a responsibility in the community to assist those in need and we are happy to join with "Hands across the Bay" to assist this and others that need help due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control, said RNR President Larry Sutton.

"These grandparents of this Miracle baby have indeed incurred expenses beyond their imagination which were brought by a series of health issues upon the birth of their grandchild," Sutton said.  "They have stepped up and taken on unbelievable challenges in light of this situation."

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
