Rent-to-own News - Midwest Expo registration opens

June 9, 2011

Registration is now open for the eighth annual Midwest RTO Training Expo -- hosted by the Ohio Rental Dealers Association (ORDA) --  Sept. 13 - 14, where rent to own managers and sales representatives from multiple states gain valuable product information they will put to use in their stores immediately.

This year the Expo changes venues and will take place at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Roberts Conference Centre in Wilmington, Ohio.

As in past years, the cornerstone of the event that routinely draws owners and managers from across six states, will be training seminars that feature product experts from six leading soon-to-be-announced industry vendors.

"We're excited to change things up a little, especially for those who have attended in the past," said newly re-elected ORDA President Mike Tissot of Countryside Rent 2 Own. "We want to keep it fresh. At the end of the day, this show is still about our staff and getting them ready for the fourth quarter."

Another change is the Expo's annual recreation night. Bowling will be replaced this year with the first ever RTO Olympics which while feature companies competing in a number of contests including dolly and product assembly races.

Product training opportunities are still available but companies wishing to participate are encouraged to contact Tissot at 740/634-2666 or at mtissot@r2o.com or Keith Ferriman at 740/383-6020 or at kferriman@showplaceinc.biz ASAP.

Hotel registrations can be made by calling 937/283-3200. Request the Ohio Rental Dealers Association room rate of $94.

Dealer event registration is $35 per person payable to ORDA/Midwest. Both hotel and event registrations are due Aug. 1, 2011.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
