Rent-to-own News - Nominees sought for APRO Board

April 11, 2011

In just over four months, APRO members will elect eight board members who will play a key role in shaping the course of the rent-to-own industry.

Eight of 17 APRO Board seats are up for grabs at APRO's 2011 Convention at the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock and the nomination process is underway.

APRO's nominating committee is now seeking nominations from the APRO membership to fill these positions. Board elections will be held during the General Session July 13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"This is a golden opportunity for any APRO member to step up and be counted," said APRO Executive Director Bill Keese. "I encourage all members to consider contributing their talents to benefit our national trade association."

Both nominators and nominees must be APRO members in good standing. This will be verified by the APRO office.

Nominations:

To nominate a member, or self-nominate, download the pdf nomination form here and either mail or fax the completed form to the APRO office at 512/794-0097 no later than May 13, 2011.

Nominations may also be sent directly to APRO Executive Director Bill Keese at bkeese@rtohq.org and must include member name, company and phone number. A Word version of the nomination form is available here.

Members can nominate more than one nominee; however, the nominating committee requests approval be obtained from candidates prior to nomination. Additional nominations will be taken from the floor at the general meeting in Little Rock as well.

One vote is allowed per member company and proxy voting will be allowed after nominations are announced. Board members serve two (2) year terms and one-half of the board is elected by the membership each year.

This is an important function of the association and those who are nominated and who serve in these offices should be thoughtfully considered and carefully selected.

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
