March 23, 2011

Aaron’s Tuesday night, announced its top store and managerial performers at the company's 2011 national managers meeting in Orlando, where Briley Investments Inc. took home top prize as Aaron's Franchise of the Year.

Aaron’s reported record revenues and earnings in 2010 with high-performing stores across the U.S. and Canada and an overall customer increase of 10 percent for its company-operated and franchised stores.

Franchisee and APRO President Robert Briley heads Abilene, Texas based Briley Investments Inc. which took home the evening's two top prizes -- Franchise of the Year and Store of the Year -- for the second time in three years.

"I'm very impressed with all our associates, they really set the bar high and accomplished all their goals," Briley said. "It's exciting to see what happens when you give people the responsibility and authority to excel."

Briley thanked his vice president of operations, Terry Bilbrey, regional managers Scott Lunsford, Penn Mallery and John Parker Briley, as well as his wife Lou Briley and son Zach Briley.

Briley Investments also claimed Aaron's 2010 best overall store of the year for its Brownwood, Texas location managed by Joey Dolberry.

Briley also serves on the Abilene City Council and chairs the United Way of Abilene board of directors.

“Aaron’s experienced record performance last year, and we feel we’re on track to do the same in 2011,” said Robin Loudermilk, CEO and President. “We owe our success to our loyal customer base, but also to our employees whose hard work and dedication is never-ending. Our regional and store managers have done an outstanding job of leading their teams, and this event is an opportunity for the Company to show its heartfelt gratitude.”

At the 2011 Aaron’s National Managers Meeting in Orlando, more than 2,000 Aaron’s associates have gathered for a major community outreach project and to learn more about Aaron’s growth plans for the next year.

For the third year in a row, the Aaron’s associates dedicated an afternoon to community outreach projects during the National Managers Meeting.

This year’s projects benefited military service members, local blood banks, local food banks and area children. Aaron’s associates invested 4,500 hours and $200,000 in product and service donations, including a check to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the nation’s top children’s cancer hospital, for $81,200 from funds raised during an employee campaign.

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
