Rent-to-own News - Premier Wraps Up Best-Ever Annual Convention

January 24, 2011

The Premier Companies annual convention in Phoenix, Arizona last week was unprecedented with events and surprises for its attendees at every turn. Activities that were equaled only by an exquisite setting at the Wild Horse Pass Resort included a tribal blessing at the opening of the general session, generous door prizes, a moonlight hayride and bonfire accompanied by food and entertainment from local native Americans, and an Awards Dinner with dancing.

“We know how to plan a celebration,” said John Darden, Premier’s Franchise/Vendor Liaison. “And we have much to celebrate with our talented dealers and faithful vendors.” But Darden adds that while Premier conventions are about celebrating, there are other reasons dealers find them an invaluable benefit to their franchise operation.

“The vendor show was terrific,” Darden said. “We had a record number of vendor partners who sponsored the convention, and they were pleased with the opportunity to talk to dealers in person. To keep things fun and fresh, a crossword puzzle game kept people circulating through the room collecting clues for the game from each vendor.”

An impressive array of Breakout Sessions included an all-star cast of well-respected RTO and marketing figures, including Kelly McDonald, McDonald Marketing, a global marketing and advertising expert and author, who spoke on how to market to U.S. Latinos. McDonald will pilot a program with The Premier Companies comprised of seven webinars on “How to Market to People Not Like You,” the title of her book to be released in March 2011.

In addition to some of Premier’s longest standing preferred vendors and top dealers, the 16 Breakout Sessions featured Kevin Silvers, Generations Diamonds and Jewelry, who spoke about the importance of providing personal service to your customers, and Mitch Wasden with Contact Point who discussed how to convert telephone callers in to buyers.

“Dealers know that our Premier convention – as well as our Mid Year Retreat – is not to be missed,” said Darden. “We work hard each day to make our businesses successful. We come together at our events as a family for rejuvenation and support.”

Darden announced that the Mid Year Retreat will be held in Dallas on August 19th – 21st.

A New Rent-to-Own Experience

by Neil Ferguson

Here’s the lowdown on APRO’s 2012 Convention and Trade Show, July 24-26 in Memphis. The RTO industry’s big event will offer many valuable experiences, including insights on how to turn your stores into “experiences”–the good kind for consumers

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
