Rent-to-own News - North East Rental Dealers Association donates $5,000 to children's hospital

December 6, 2010

L to R: Ray Bird, Al Coelho (ColorTyme franchisees), Mark Anderson (FasTrack Rent to Own) Mark Key, (SEI Aaron’s franchise).

ColorTyme manager Al Coelho is again running in the Boston Marathon in 2011 in a fundraising effort that last year netted more than $14,000 for Children's Hospital of Boston.

The North East Rental Dealer’s Association last Thursday kicked off Coelho's latest efforts with a $5,000 donation - the association also donated $5,000 last year -- in support of Coelho's efforts.

Touched by the compassion and dedication of the South Shore Hospital staff and doctors at Children’s Hospital Boston after the loss of his pre-mature daughter in 2002, Coelho decided to turn his heartbreak into inspiration.

"I'm fundraising for this event because I believe so strongly in all the good things Children's Hospital Boston does for kids." Coelho says on his fundraising page. "They were very good to us and if I can pay it forward a little bit, I want to do that."

Coelho's brother, Carlos, will also be running in the marathon and will give Albert a "bit of competition," Albert said. "He's more of a runner. He's been doing this a while."

Albert and Carlos will begin a grueling 18 week training schedule next Monday leading up to the marathon April 18, 2011.

Coelho's goal for the April 2011 marathon is $25,000. To contribute to Coelho's campaign, go here.

Who Is Your Competition?

by Bill Keese

In order to expand your customer base, you can learn a lot by observing your competitors. But first, you need to figure out just who they are. If you think your only competition is the rent-to-own store down the street, you’re not considering the bigger picture. APRO’s executive director offers a big-picture perspective.

A Review of Online Customer Complaints

by Ed Winn III

While rent-to-own companies have not cornered the market on negative reviews posted on consumer complaint websites, it’s no surprise that there are cyberspace beefs against RTO. APRO’s general counsel reviews some of them in search of a pattern and he considers appropriate response to online complaints.
