Rent-to-own News - Newly elected councilman donates 1,000 DVDs to libraries

June 25, 2009

Riverside City Councilman-elect Paul Davis of Ward 4 was officially sworn into office this week, but he's already going to bat for local libraries.

Davis, owner of Nations Rent-To-Own, who ran on a platform of  fiscal responsibility, said governmental transparency is going to be extremely important during the current economic crisis. Read more about Davis' election here.

“We must preserve Riverside's basic services including public libraries, public parks, public safety, public utilities, and public works,” Davis said.

As evidence of  his commitment to Ward 4, Davis and his wife, May, will donate over 1,000 DVDs to two  libraries in Ward 4: Orange Terrace Neighborhood Library and Casa Blanca Family Learning Center. Davis  has a passion for enhancing library programs, as well as the youth programs in the community. All of these movies will be available for check out at the library.

Davis wants to encourage everyone in the community to gather up used and new books, as well as movies, to help support and fill the shelves of our local libraries.

“One of the greatest gifts that we can give each other is that of education. If everyone would look on their own shelves to find a book or movie that is no longer needed, donate it to their local library, it can help others without costing a penny, and make a difference for a lifetime.”

After his swearing in ceremony, Davis took part in his first city council meeting, approving Riverside's 2010 budget.
