Rent-to-own News - Rent-A-Center teams with Magic Johnson for all-star ad campaign

February 20, 2009

Earvin “Magic” Johnson

Rent-A-Center announced today the launch of an integrated advertising campaign featuring basketball hall-of-famer Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

Touching upon themes of respect and the achievement of goals, the ads spotlight Rent-A-Center’s exclusive Worry-Free Guarantee, introduced in last year’s advertising campaign.

Created by Dallas ad agency Launch, the 15- and 30-second TV and radio spots feature Johnson discussing the values that shaped his success, both on and off the court. Visuals bearing testimony to his legendary career reinforce the message.

Johnson speaks to Rent-A-Center’s commitment to those same values. Citing Rent-A-Center’s 100% satisfaction guarantee, he calls attention to the availability of brand-name merchandise via an easy, worry-free experience without the need for credit or credit checks. Sharing the spotlight with Johnson are visuals of RAC merchandise and lifestyle shots of customers enjoying new furniture, appliances and electronics.

“A lot of people don’t really understand just how significant a role Rent-A-Center plays in families’ lives,” said Ann Davids, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “In teaming with Magic Johnson, we have found the ideal partner to help get the word out. He’s living proof of how, with hard work and determination, you can get the best things in life — which is exactly what Rent-A-Center is all about.”

The integrated campaign, created by Rent-A-Center Marketing Alliance partners Launch Agency and RAZOR , includes radio, print, Web and in-store marketing. OMD Chicago  plans and places the broadcast media.
