Rent-to-own News - RSSS celebrates 25th at users conference

October 2, 2008

Users of Rental and Sales Software Systems -- better known as RSSS -- head to the Texas gulf coast next week for the company's semi-annual user's conference where RSSS will unveil a host of innovations to its rent-to-own software that now runs in over 1,000 stores.

RSSS General Manager Ellison Crider.

The conference, October 6-8, at the Omni Marina Hotel in Corpus Christi, also marks the company's silver anniversary, and a golf tournament and dinner aboard the USS Lexington highlight the human side of the technology intensive conference.

"We're going to be talking to users a lot about our modernization plan and our migration to a Linux operating system," says Ellison Crider, RSSS general manager. "Linux is a much more robust system. It's not a memory hog like Windows."

In addition to the stability of Linux, and it's resistance to Windows plaguing viruses, the OS is inexpensive to license and can be used on multiple processors within the same system by an unlimited number of users, Crider says.

"We have one store that's operating over 200 stores all off of one very powerful server," Crider says. "You couldn't do that with Windows. When you're talking about your business, you're talking about your livelihood and with such a stable operating system, you don't need to worry about it crashing."

Some of the improvements users will learn more about include new inventory management tools, enhanced end of day processes and customizable on-line user training. Ease of integration with the Internet is another strength of the Linux system, Crider says.

Individual client meetings are also scheduled for Wednesday, October 8.

Co-founded in 1983 by Les Feldser, RSSS was acquired by Wichita-based High Touch Software Solutions in 2002 but continues to operate as a wholly owned subsidiary. Crider joined the company in 1990 after working for Feldser at his Curtis Mathis store.

RSSS serves over 150 companies including easyhome, Buddy's Home Furnishings, Rent One and American Rental.

High Touch President and CEO Wayne Chambers -- who will make a presentation at the RSSS conference -- says the unique relationship of the two companies has allowed both to do what they do best and meet the different demands of different clients.

RSSS has made it's mark through its ability to customize, and that's one thing he says will continue.

"One of their (RSSS) characteristics is that they take a more customized approach with their software and that's one reason people are attracted to it," Chambers says. "RSSS has always done a great job addressing its customer base and these improvements and enhancements will allow them to continue to do that even better."
